Ecotech Services approached Piko Wholefoods in 2013 to test the market for the recycling of small batteries. Over the past twelve years a large quantity of batteries were recycled through Pikos but the demand for the services has now dropped off due to subsidised schemes offering free battery recycling for small quantities from households.
In the intervening years Ecotech Services has become a major player in the New Zealand battery recycling market with a huge tonnage accepted from individuals and businesses.
We have also set up the first supermarket-based battery recycling scheme.
